Southern Indiana Visitor Center Goes Upside Down

10am-5pm. Monday-SaturdayBegin your Stranger Things™ adventure in at the Southern Indiana Visitor Center! The space has been transformed with Stranger Things™–inspired scenes. See Castle Byers, snap a photo in the Byers’ living room, and wander into the Upside Down through November 26. Free event.

  • Pre-K Storytime: 11-11:45am. Pre-K Storytime helps children ages 3-5 get ready for kindergarten with stories, songs, and fun activities that build early literacy and social skills. Siblings are welcome! No registration required.

  • Baby’s Afternoon Out: 1-2pm. Join us for an afternoon of early literacy fun for babies! There will be stories, songs, and sensory activities for babies to interact with at the end of the program. Registration required.

  • Fall Hay Bale Arrangement: 3-5pm. Create a decorative fall hay bale arrangement in this free craft class for adults. All materials will be provided. Registration required.

  • Art in Autumn: Indigenous Inspired Baskets: 3-6pm. Cultural Arts Center. After a brief cultural introduction, participants will learn to wrap and coil rope using colorful yarn to create their own small decorative baskets. Along the way, they’ll explore symbolic color choices, geometric patterns, and shaping techniques that mimic traditional forms. Whether new to fiber arts or ready to build on existing skills, visitors will leave with a one-of-a-kind basket and a deeper appreciation for the intersection of function and beauty in Indigenous craft. Registration required.

  • Beginner Mat Yoga with the YMCA: 5:30-6:30pm. New to yoga? Join us for a free beginner yoga class at The Floyd County Library! Learn about yoga basics, terminology, and postures. Practice yoga at your own level in a safe and supportive environment with guidance from a registered yoga teacher from the YMCA (200RYT). Modifications will be offered as you practice each pose. Registration required.

  • Teen Scene: 6-7:30pm. Hang out with us every Thursday from 6:00 to 7:30pm in the Teen Scene! Take a break in the middle of the week with a new activity, game, craft, or anything else we dream up, plus snacks! All teens are welcome (11-18 years old).

Join us at Galena on Thursdays as we move and groove to some fun books, basic rhythms and rhymes, and different music genres!  We'll use things like a drum, hand bells, rhythm sticks, egg shakers, or scarves in this lively and interactive storytime.  Moove & Groove will help build early literacy skills, social interaction, and blossoming young music lovers!

    Saving America’s Largest Salamander – The Hellbender

    1-2pm. Falls of the Ohio State Park. Indiana is home to America’s largest salamander, called the Hellbender. It is only found in one Indiana river – the Blue River in Harrison County. Come and learn about this amazing aquatic animal, what makes it special, and what you can do to keep its habitat clean. This hands-on program will cover its adaptations, how water pollution affects it, and how amphibians have changed over geological time using a life-size model of Ichthyostega, the oldest amphibian in the fossil record.  Program free.

    New Albany Main Street Jingle Walk

    2-6pm. Downtown New Albany. Sample wine from local Indiana wineries at downtown businesses, enjoy a festive day of holiday shopping, and participate in a fun scavenger hunt around town! General admission $30.

    Botanica Mysterium

    6-9pm. Culbertson Mansion. It’s 1883, and a wealthy Victorian bride-to-be has planned the perfect autumn wedding. In line with the trends of the day, every inch of the ceremony and reception will be covered in botanicals — ferns, flowers and tropical plants from around the world. But the night before the big day, the rarest flower in her bouquet has been stolen! The wedding cannot go on until it’s found. Can you find the missing flower in time for her to say, “I do?” You’ll encounter a cast of shadowy characters, each with their own secrets, and you’ll have one hour to solve the mystery by determining who committed the crime, in which room and the motive behind it. The winning team will receive a prize with local plant-related items, and all attendees will receive a limited-edition Botanica Mysterium candle created by New Albany’s Kozy Candles. Dress for a botanical wedding at this immersive mystery experience. Refreshments and mocktails will be available. Tickets required.

Family Nature Club

3-4pm. Falls of the Ohio State Park. What makes a geode different from a pocket of crystals? Where are geodes and crystals found? These are some the questions that Family Nature Club will address. After learning about geodes, participants will partake in a geode scavenger hunt inside the Interpretive Center.  Complete the hunt and pick out a geode to take home. $2 program fee covered by Falls of the Ohio Foundation Grant. Location, Rotunda.
